Panchakarma is the use of five procedures for purification

Ayurveda is based on two fundamental theories – the Pancha Mahabhutta and Tridosha. Ayurvedic philosophy believes that everything in the universe is made up of five elements. When the Pancha Mahabhuttas or five elements (space, air, fire, water, and earth) are balanced, the body is healthy. When there is an imbalance, there is a disease. These elements manifest into life forces and make each of us unique – physically, mentally, and emotionally. The elements combine into three Doshas (mind-body types) – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The combination of these three Doshas influences our mental, emotional and physical tendencies.

Ayurveda’s primary focus is to prevent illness by proactively encouraging a healthy way of life. It seeks to balance and restore health through wholesome food, exercise, meditation, relaxation, and cleansing. Ayurveda uses the process of Panchakarma to rid the body of toxic material. Panchakarma also removes excess doshas and corrects imbalances in them. Purification happens at the deepest level.
